An insight into our work with people affected by cancer.
We’re pleased to share that Welfare Benefits Caseworker Michelina Partridge was recently interviewed by Ayub Khan, CEO of Harlow Citizens Advice (one of the nine Local Citizens Advice within the Citizens Advice Essex consortium) on TouchPoint community radio. The conversation offered listeners a powerful insight into the vital work Michelina and her collaeagues do helping people affected by cancer to access the financial support and entitlements they need during a profoundly difficult time.
In the interview, Michelina spoke about the unique challenges faced by clients living with or recovering from cancer — from navigating complex benefits systems to managing the financial strain of being unable to work, increased energy costs, or travel for treatment. She described the role of Citizens Advice caseworkers as not just providing practical guidance, but also offering reassurance and a sense of stability to people at their most vulnerable.
Drawing on real-life stories (shared with permission), Michelina highlighted how timely advice and advocacy can make a life-changing difference — ensuring clients receive Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Universal Credit, Carer’s Allowance, and access to Macmillan grants, among other forms of support.
The interview was part of a broader effort to raise awareness of the partnership between Macmillan Cancer Support and Citizens Advice, and to showcase the impact of this specialist service across the region.
We’re incredibly grateful to Michelina for sharing her experience, and to Ayub and TouchPoint radio for helping amplify the voices of frontline advisers.
